Biological Fly Control

When Nature Wins

Cleanout

When cleaning out the pit you will remove many wasp infected fly pupa. These will have wasp maggots developing inside them and are a valuable resource. Therefore if you have good fly control you can be sure that many of the fly pupa are infected.

Therefore, whilst considering any risk to your biosecurity ( consult your vet on this subject) you can reintroduce some old litter / fly pupa into the pit / area under the slats for the next batch of birds. This allows you to reinfect the house with wasps. It should be only done when there has been no disease issues which might be transmitted via the manure in which case you should start with fresh wasps.
