When cleaning out the pit you will remove many wasp infected fly pupa. These will
have wasp maggots developing inside them and are a valuable resource. Therefore
if you have good fly control you can be sure that many of the fly pupa are infected.
Therefore, whilst considering any risk to your biosecurity (consult your vet on
this subject) you can reintroduce some old litter / fly pupa into the pit / area
under the slats for the next batch of birds. This allows you to reinfect the house
with wasps. It should be only done when there has been no disease issues which might
be transmitted via the manure in which case you should start with fresh wasps.
